For those that are familiar with BartPE know that running BartPE on CD’s is time consuming and slow. Below are some simple steps to running BartPE on USB Drives.

1. Download Pe2USB

2. Unzip contents and run .EXE

3. You will see the screen below

4. Make sure your USB drive is detected. Once that is done, mirror the settings shown in the screen shot with the exception of the source path

5. For the Source Path I would recommend pointing to a previous PE build folder with the i386 files. This will ensure that the USB build includes all plug ins. If not pointing to the Windows XP cd will be sufficient to build a basic BartPE USB recovery drive.

6. Once you click Start you will answer yes to the next question and it should begin.

**In order for this to work you system must support booting to USB**

I recently have been playing around with Windows 7 and am beyond impressed so far with its features and speed. It runs great on my Thinkpad T43 with only 1.5GB of memory.

I have heard of it running smooth on Celeron 933 systems too though!

Anyway if you happen to have the Intel 915 Chipset you won’t find much support for Vista let alone Windows 7. You will find that the supplied drivers simply do not cut it. I have come up with a solution that at least works on my system and will help others I hope.

After the Windows 7 upgrade I was pretty giddy and upbeat with this brand new OS, but soon realized what a headache it was trying to find a solution to the lackluster driver situation. No help from Microsoft or Intel and the forums did not have the answers I needed either.

After some hours of research I finally came across a driver package from HP that supports the 915 chipset. The reason for the Vista driver is simply that my games, videos and other graphics intensive applications worked just fine with Vista SP2.

After extracting the files, running the setup.exe in Compatibility Mode of Vista, my games run smoother now and no BSOD’s or any other driver related errors or problems. For steps downloading and installing the drivers follow below.

1. Download SP34749.EXE

2. Once file is downloaded extract files to location of your choice

3. Find the setup.exe within the extracted files and than right click and choose Properties and than Compatibility. Make sure the options shown in the screenshot are selected.

That is pretty much it.

Make sure when you are done installing the new driver to also set Compatibility on the application or game you are having issues with. I found setting them to “Windows Vista” work just fine.

2. CutePDF – Reliably and faithfully creates PDF documents from virtually every application I’ve tried it from. Whether it be an image, text document, or web page.

3. PDFCreator – Works without much effort. A neat feature for this PDF generator is the ability to encrypt the PDF’s.

4.PDFOnline – PDFOnline will allow anybody with an Internet connection to convert to from multiple file types by uploading online. PDFRecommended if you do not want to install software on your system for whatever reason.

On a computer that has 4 GB of RAM, the System Properties dialog box and the System Information dialog box may report less memory than you expect. This problem occurs because the address space is limited to 4 GB in a 32-bit hardware environment. Memory may be relocated to make room for addresses that the basic input/output system (BIOS) reserves for hardware. However, because of this limitation, Windows Vista cannot access memory that is relocated above the 4 GB boundary.

Solution: Open an elevated Command Prompt, type BCDEdit /set pae ForceEnable and press Enter.

The pae parameter enables Physical Address Extension (PAE). On 32-bit versions of Windows, PAE is disabled by default. PAE is an addressing strategy that uses a page-translation hierarchy to enable systems with 32-bit addressing to address more than 4 GB of physical memory. PAE also supports several advanced system and processor features, such as Data Execution Prevention (DEP; “No execute”), Non-Uniform Memory Architecture (NUMA), and hot-add memory, so it is also used on computers with less than 4 GB of memory. PAE must be supported by the processor.

On a computer that supports hardware-enabled Data Execution Prevention (DEP), PAE is automatically enabled when DEP is enabled and automatically disabled when you disable DEP. To enable PAE when DEP is disabled, you must enable PAE explicitly: Open an elevated Command Prompt.
Type BCDEdit /set nx AlwaysOff & BCDEdit /set pae ForceEnable and press Enter.

Outlook supports many command line switches when launching Outlook. Some are good for fixing issues and troubleshooting, while others may be used to find meeting requests like the command Outlook /Sniff

Below is a list of popular command line switches for Outlook 2003. To use simply go to Start\Run and type Outlook /chosen_switch

/c messageclass – Creates a new item of the specified message class, works for any valid MAPI form. For example:
/c ipm.activity creates a Journal entry
/c ipm.appointment creates an appointment
/c ipm.contact creates a contact
/c ipm.note creates an e-mail message
/c ipm.stickynote creates a note
/c ipm.task creates a task

/CleanClientRules – Starts Outlook and deletes client-based rules. For non-Exchange users.

/CleanFinders – Sets Outlook 2003 Search Folders back to the default state (deletes custom Search Folders)

/CleanFreeBusy – Cleans and regenerates free/busy information.

/CleanProfile – Removes invalid profile keys and recreates default registry keys where applicable.

/Cleanpst- Launches Outlook with a clean Personal Folders file (.pst)

/CleanViews – Restores default views.

/FirstRun - Starts Outlook as if it were run for the first time.

/ImportPrf prffilename – Launches Outlook and opens/imports the defined MAPI profile (*.prf). If Outlook is already open, queues the profile to be imported on the next clean launch.

/Profile profilename – Loads the specified profile. If your profile name contains a space, enclose the profile name in quotation marks

/ResetFolderNames – Resets the language of the default folders to the language of the Outlook client.

/ResetFolders – Restores missing folders for the default delivery location.
